THE STORY OF THE MOTHER
The story of Virgo is inspired by the Greek legend of the Goddess Demeter, protector of crops, vegetation, >fertility and harvest, in addition to having a deeply rooted sense of motherhood.
The legend tells of the kidnapping of his daughter, Persephone, by the god Hades while she was picking flowers, Demeter in the midst of her suffering and anguish retaliated and decided to stop the growth of all plants and shoots, leaving the Earth bare of vegetation.
This situation caught the attention of Zeus who requested the intermediation of the goddess Hecate, so that he could reach a solution between Hades and Demeter. After hearing both sides, Hecate ruled that if Persephone ate nothing while she was in the realm of the dead, she could be returned to her mother. Unfortunately, Persephone ate some pomegranate seeds while she was kidnapped.
But Demeter didn't give up and persisted with the suspension of plant growth until Zeus interfered again. He ordered Persephone to stay with Hades only for three months of the year and the rest of the year she could return to her mother.
During the three months with Hades, plant growth stops, which is winter. The appearance of the constellation Virgo in the spring signals the return of Persephone to her mother Demeter and the new growth of crops.
