ARIES CONSTELLATION

You have surely heard of the constellations and the astrological and energetic power that each one of them has. A constellation is a group of stars that can imaginarily take a specific shape when seen in the night sky. This time we will talk about the constellation Aries.

A name is usually received in honor of characters or mythological characters, animals, people or objects. It is very common to see drawings of these constellations that are formed from the union of each of the stars that compose it, in this way people usually recognize it.

There are 12 specific constellations that belong to each zodiac sign, and they are the ones that govern the astrological energy of each one of the astral group.

ARIES CONSTELLATION MEANING

Aries and its constellation are made up of a series of three stars, exceptionally bright, forming a curve: Hamal, Sheratan and Mesarthim.

It is positioned exactly between the constellations of Pisces to the west and Taurus to the east.

Its brightest star is Hamal and it is the one that allows us to recognize that slight curve that it forms, and resembles the figure of a ram. The sun enters the constellation of Aries from April 19 to May 14, although it is best observed in the autumn and winter seasons.

ARIES MYTHOLOGY

In Greek mythology, the ram is the figure that represents Aries, the golden fleece that inspired the saga of Jason.

This interpretation describes the mythology of Aries as a ram with wings and Orom fur that was sent by the gods of Olympus.

He tells how Athamante, king of Thessaly and widower of Nephele with whom he had his children Phrixo and Hele, marries Ino. The new queen, who can't stand her stepsons, decides to sacrifice them to end a stage of famine in the kingdom. The god Hermes manages to save the children by sending a winged ram with golden fleece and the gift of speech.

During the voyage, Hele falls into the sea and drowns, giving the marine region its name the Hellespont; Frixo arrives at Cólchida, where king Aeetes welcomes him and grants him marriage with his daughter. In gratitude to the king, Frixo sacrifices the ram and hangs it from an oak tree in a forest dedicated to the god. Zeus, to commemorate this gesture, placed Aries in the night sky.

ARIES CONSTELLATION STARS

The constellation of Aries is made up of three main stars, which mark the route of other small stars. These are Hamal, Sheratan and Mesarthim, each of them has different characteristics.

SIGN ARIES STARS

HAMAL

fas fa-star

Hamal (α Arietis), a name that means Xot in Arabic, is the brightest star in the constellation Aries, it is for them that the constellation is designated whole, it is yellow and its size is 15 times the size of the sun and 90 times much brighter

SHERATAN

It is the second brightest star in the constellation Aries. It is a white star of the main sequence, only twice as big as the Sun. It is also a double star: its companion, a star with the same mass as the Sun.

Their orbit is extremely eccentric (0.88), the two stars are very close to each other, (0.08) AU when closer, 1.2 AU when farther away, and circle one over the other in 107 days. The two stars are thus virtually inseparable by telescope and there is an interferometer to separate them.

MESARTHIN

MesarthimArietis ) is not the third star in the constellation Aries, it is the fourth. Its rank within the Bayer designation stems from its proximity to Hamal and Sheratan. It is a double star.

The primary, γ 2 Arietis, is of magnitude 4.75. Its companion, γ 1 Ari (its "1" comes from its location, west of "2", is of magnitude 3.38. They are minus 500 AU apart and close around each other in 5,000 years.< /p>

OTHER STARS

Without being a very large constellation, Aries has a large number of stars visible to the naked eye without being particularly bright. Consequently, the designations are quite numerous: proper name (as boots, δ Arietis, fourth star of the constellation), Bayer designation (ε Arietis, sixth), Flamsteed designation (41 Arietis, third star, brighter than Mesarthim) , Henry Draper catalog (HD 20644, fifth star).
